Today we sang the alphabet forwards and backwards to the tune of "Head and Shoulders, Knees and Toes".
We like to practice our letters in all different ways! Kids tend to learn the alphabet by rote…they memorize it quickly. Switching up the tune or singing the alphabet backwards really challenges them to connect each letter's shape with it’s name and/or sound. We also slow down (especially spots like LMNOP which to many young learners sounds like it’s meant to be a single name or sound)
5 little dandelions growing by my door. Whoosh went the wind and then there were 4.
4 little dandelions as pretty as can be. Whoosh went the wind and then there were 3.
3 little dandelions, I’ll pick them just for you! Whoosh went the wind and then there were 2.
2 little dandelions, blowing them is fun. Whoosh went the wind and then there was 1.
1 little dandelion standing in the breeze. Whoosh went the wind and scattered all the seeds!
Down by the bay (echo)
Where the watermelons grow (echo)
Back to my home (echo)
I dare not go (echo)
For if I do (echo)
My mother will say (echo)
Did you ever see a _________ with a _________ down by the bay?
The verses we sang today are below. What silly rhymes can you come up with?
Whale with a polka-dot tail...
Fly wearing a tie...
Llama wearing pajamas...
Snake baking a cake...
Pig wearing a wig...
Bear wearing underwear...
(tune: If You're Happy and You Know It)
Oh, we got a lovely letter in the mail (clap, clap)

Getting mail is so much fun! Now let’s see what’s in this one.
In this lovely little letter in the mail. (clap, clap)
Today's letter said:
Dear Storytime Friends,
I live in a group called a pack. I look similar to a kind of pet that a lot of people have, but I’m definitely NOT a pet. And I’m in a lot of stories where they say I’m “big” and “bad”. I guess I’m pretty big, but I’m not bad…I’m just wild! Can you guess who I am?
I’m a wolf!
